I’m so grateful that I belong to a wonderful and talented community of knitters, especially knitting groups.
Knitting groups have existed for a very long time but I was first introduced to one of them when I started working at Wool-Tyme 18 years ago. This group met weekly at the back of the store and I was asked to replace the instructor who was absent from time to time to help them with their knitting.
Yes, there was the odd dropped stitch that had to be fixed, patterns to understand, abbreviations to clarify, analyzing and interpreting what a designer intended with a specific pattern and how that project should be knitted.
As knitters, they also shared knitting experiences, exchanged and shared ideas, and introduced new knitting patterns that they had bought on line or seen in knitting magazines.
I took over the group permanently many years ago and it didn’t take me long to realize that although these ladies had knitting as a common goal, they were there socially, and supported each other and referred to themselves as knitted sisters.
Of course many different subjects are discussed other than knitting and, more often than not, you can hear laugher in the store coming from the knitting room. However, at times there is a rare silence and all you can hear is the clicking of knitting needles busily at work.
Knitting groups are definitely great if you want to get together with other knitters to learn and develop knitting skills and for social interaction. If you would like to join a knitting group at Wool-Tyme you may inquire at the store.
Happy knitting!
