Steeking Workshop

This is a technique used primarily to cut open your knitting to insert button bands or sleeves into a garment.  It is usually used in fairisle knitting but can also be used in plain knitted garments. This is knit in the round. There is no purling required in your garment or sewing in ends in colour work knitting!

It is a 3 session workshop with homework to be completed after each class to completely finish your project.
The class project is a cowl that will be cut and button bands added.

Prerequisite: Beginner Fairisle class (knitting with both hands)

Minimum age for this class is 12 years of age.

Homework:  There is some preparation needed. Instructions will be emailed/given to participants once enrolled. The project will need to continued at home.  

Supply List: 

• Two balls  of extreme colour difference/value from the following suggestions (available at Wool-Tyme).
  • Haynes Creek Heathers DK * used in sample
    
  • Fjallallopi (Lopi)
  • Lanus Light (Berroco)
  • Sport by Brigs and Little.atons Classic Wool in two contrasting colours. 
• ONE(1) 3-4 mm circular needle 24" long. (dependent on your gauge and yarn choice). The ribbing and button bands will require a smaller needle than you choose for body! This will be discussed further in class.
• A roll of highlighter tape is recommended but not mandatory. 
• Stitch markers
• Pen and paper for taking notes
• Buttons: 5 or more buttons to match your yarn
• Optional: It is really handy to have two wool spinners such as this one by Moosehill Woodworks
