WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

A Letter to the Customers

One of our wonderful employees, Ruby, wrote this article about her experience working at Wool-Tyme over the past year and we thought we would share it with you all. Thanks for all your hard work Ruby; we love having you as a part of our team!

The Joys of Working at Wool-Tyme

            by Ruby Urlocker

I have been working at Wool-Tyme for a year now. This warm and colourful store has helped me personally in providing a very calm and reassuring environment in which to work. Diana is so understanding and fun to work with, as is everyone else. It’s always exciting when a new yarn gets to be put out, or when I come across a yarn that I haven’t seen before. When I first started working, I felt nervous, and filling the shelves with inventory in particular seemed a daunting task. But that nervousness went away within the first few months and now I can say I don’t have the same anxieties. I do my best each and every day, and end the shift feeling satisfied.

This has been my longest job, and I have come to love it more and more. A typical shift for me looks like spending the first hour or so organizing the discount section. A lot of the time, people don’t remember where they picked up a certain yarn that they no longer want, and decide to just put it anywhere! This is fine because it leaves more work for me. I put all the yarns in their correct places, fill more yarns in where needed after customers have bought some, and sometimes price or reprice items in this section where they are less expensive. I am approached by customers with questions that reveal their depth of knowledge, and my lack thereof. When I first came to Wool-Tyme, I didn’t knit, despite having some interest. When people ask me questions, most of the time I can’t provide an answer, so I resort to using my famous line, “Let me get someone for you,” or “let me show you to someone else who can help you.” Most people who come here are very enthusiastic about what they see and what they are making, so that brightens my mood.

I thought I would write this little piece to show what it’s like working at Wool-Tyme. All the people I’ve met have been so genuine and a pleasure to interact with, both staff and customers, and it makes my day knowing that I could have a small impact on the lives of knitters and creators. I can honestly say this job was the perfect fit for me, but despite how delighted those around me are with their personal projects I have to admit, I still don’t knit!

Upcoming Classes, Sales, and Events

 EVENTS

Malabrigo Day is this coming Saturday, October 25, and we are excited to spend it with you. For those who would like to participate, we will be having a "yarn tasting" where customers can try out yarns from Malabrigo that we do not carry. We would love your feedback on these yarns, and who knows, maybe they will end up as a part of our regular store! There will be some skeins of those "yarn tasting" yarns available for sale, but don't wait to buy them because there is very limited stock available. Also, if you come into the store wearing a Malabrigo project, we will have a little Malabrigo token for you at the cash. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
