WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING
A Letter to the Customers from Diana:
Happy New Year everyone!
This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Topsy Farms on Amherst Island to pick up some stock for our store. The farm’s motto is “Get Dirty, Grow Happy”, and from their “hippy” beginnings in 1971, they have continued to practice, and encourage, care for the land and animals.
After a short drive southwest of Kingston, we took a pleasant 20 min ferry ride to the island. We drove around a bit and were treated to sights of large waves, swans, and a running fox. Topsy Farm was easy to find, and two of the first things we saw after parking were sheep and the unique Irish dry stone walls found on the island. At the Wool Shop, I was greeted by Leah, their Director of Retail Operations, who answered my questions about the various locally made items on display alongside their own wonderful products. We also talked about events and tours that they offer; I, personally, would love to return in lambing season when you can visit with the lambs!
While the weather this past weekend wasn’t the best, I would love to go again on a spring/summer day, and would encourage anyone else to do so! In the meantime, if you would like to try some locally ‘grown happy’ wool, we have restocked our supply of Topsy Twist, with a few new colours added.
Happy Knitting!
Diana
