Linus Blanket Knitting Patterns

One Piece Blanket

Knits in one piece with chunky weight yarn.

Size: approximately 36" x 40"
Materials:
  • 5 x100g balls machine washable chunky yarn (approx. 700 metres)
  • 1 pair of 7 mm needles (or 7 mm circular needle, use back and forth, do not join). 
  • 1 crochet hook 7mm (or satin binding) to finish the edge of the blanket.

 

Cast on 110 stitches. Work even in pattern st (as below) until the 20 row pattern has been completed 9 times (total of 180 rows). Cast off.

Pattern stitch:

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9: Knit 10, * Purl 10, Knit 10, repeat from * to end of row.
Rows 2 ,4, 6, 8 and 10: Purl 10, * Knit 10, Purl 10, repeat from * to end of row.
Rows 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19: Purl 10, * Knit 10, Purl 10, repeat from * to end of row.
Rows 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20: Knit 10, * Purl 10, Knit 10, repeat from * to end of row.

Finishing:

Option 1: With right side of work facing you, work 1 row single crochet around all the edges, work 2 single crochets in the corner sts, and join. Fasten off. Block lightly (roll in a damp bath towel for a few hours), allow to dry.

Option 2: Block lightly (roll in a damp bath towel for a few hours), allow to dry. Sew satin binding around the edge of the blanket.

 


Blanket Pattern in Squares

Size: approximately 34" x 40"
Materials:
  • 15 balls (50 g) knitted worsted weight yarn and 
  • 4.5 mm needles. May be knit in one or more colours.

Cast on 60 sts.

Pattern for one square:
Rows 1, 2, 3 ,4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10: * Knit 10, purl 10 * repeat to end of row
Rows 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20: * purl 10, knit 10 * repeat to end of row.

These 20 rows complete the pattern. Complete the pattern 3 times (60 rows in total).

Cast off.

Make 15 squares.

Sew or crochet squares together. To complete the blanket, sew a blanket stitch around the edge in a contrasting colour or crochet an edge.

 


 

Chunky Knitted Crib-Size Afghan 

Materials:
  • 12 balls (50g / 1¾ oz) of chunky weight yarn
  • 8 mm (US size 11) circular needle or pair of flexible needles
Size: approximately 85 cm (33.5") x 119 cm (47")

Abbreviations:
garter stitch: knit every row st(s): stitch(es)
k: knit yo: yarn over needle
p: purl
INSTRUCTIONS:
Pattern Stitch: Note: Stitches will vary from row to row. Do not count stitches until Row 4 has been completed.

Row 1: (wrong side row) k8, k1, *p2, k2, repeat from * to last 11 sts, p2, k1, k8.
Row 2: k8, p1, *k1, yo, k1, p2, repeat from * to last 11 sts, k1, yo, k1, p1, k8.
Row 3: k8, k1, *p3, k2, repeat from * to last 12 sts, p3, k1, k8.
Row 4: k8, p1, *k3, pass first k st over next 2 k sts, p2, repeat from * to last 12 sts, k3, pass first k st over next 2 k sts, p1, k8.
Afghan: Cast on 116 sts.
Knit 14 rows garter stitch.
Work 4 rows of pattern stitch 45 times.
Knit 13 rows garter stitch.
Cast off on right side.
